Conversion Bill Redux: The battle for the future of Judaism in the Jewish State.
This past summer the world Jewish community rose up and stopped a bill from passing through the Israeli Knesset that would have shifted all authority for conversion in Israel to the Chief Rabbinate. Come learn about the bill and its implications for Jews in Israel and around the world. The fight for Reform Judaism in Israel is not over - join the discussion here at Emanu-El and around the Jewish world.
The formal installation of Howard Goldsmith as Rabbi of the congregation will take place on Sunday, October 17th at 4 PM. We will join together as a congregation together with local area clergy and dignitaries to celebrate our history and our future. The installation will feature the remarks of Rabbi Goldsmith's mentor Rabbi Lawrence Hoffman, PhD.
Rabbi Hoffman is the Barbara and Stephen Friedman Professor of Liturgy, Worship and Ritual at Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion. He is also the co-Founder of Synagogue 3000, an institute dedicated to empowering congregations and communities to create synagogues that are sacred and vital centers of Jewish life. The installation will be followed by a reception. |
Next Step
Did you know there is a group for men over 55 that meets monthly at the Temple on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.? They discuss issues that occur during their post-work life, be it health, family, career, or attitude? They share war stories and eat doughnuts and drink coffee? They are Next Step.
Newcomers welcome!

Project Re-Imagine - What is it?
Our temple community is participating in an exciting journey examining our current educational programs and "re-imagining it" based on the needs and interests of our entire congregation. We have been looking at the history and culture of our temple and then learning about different models of educational programming taking place in synagogues throughout the United States. Our journey which is funded by a grant from the UJA/Federation has as its goal the creation of a new vision of temple programming focusing on all aspects of one's life from the cradle to the grave! Many new programs and initiatives are the result of this exciting project. Our Discovery Shabbats, and our Intergenerational Torah Study are two great examples. We hope that you will be as excited about this journey as we are!
