Sacred Stories Shabbat with Hannah Deutch

Friday, November 9, 2018 • 1 Kislev 5779

7:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Honoring Our Veterans and commemorating the
80th anniversary of Kristallnacht-Night of Broken Glass

Much of the Bible, like much of human life, is filled with conflict. And much of the conflict depicted in the Bible is military conflict. The need to defend a state, the need to stand up for certain values, and the need to ensure security and national interests stretches back to biblical times and beyond.

We strive for the prophetic vision of a peaceful time when each person can “dwell under vine and fig tree and none shall be afraid”. And as we work toward that time, we honor the service of those who defended our liberty and our values.

In recognition of Veteran’s Day, we will honor the veterans in our congregation at this special Shabbat service. We will also hear the incredible story of Hannah Deutch, who fled Germany on the Kindertransport, and after being interned on the Isle of Man, became a registered nurse and joined the British Army.

DID YOU SERVE?
If you have served in any branch of the military we will honor you with a special blessing that evening. Please let us know if you can attend by contacting Dan
We will read a roll call of all our veterans that night, so even if you cannot make it to the service itself, please let us know if you have served.
