SUMMARY:Fine Art & Amusement with Artist Rachel Goldsmith (Zoom)
DESCRIPTION:Artist Rachel Goldsmith (our Rabbi’s amazingly talented–a
nd also hilarious–sister) will run an Art Tour exclusively for our con
gregation.\nOn the agenda: Get an inside look at Rachel’s newest work fi
rst: originals that you cannot yet get on her website. Hear stories behind
her art that she’s never told anywhere else\, and gain access to super
special\, show-only pricing. PLUS: Rachel is giving away a piece of art t
o one lucky member of our congregation and will be drawing a name at rando
m during the Art Tour! Enter to win this piece here.\n\nAbout Rachel’s A
rt\, in her own words\nEach piece I create is an abstract chapter of an ol
d story – the universal struggle to control our environment while our en
vironment controls us. The lines and movement I see in the world repeat in
the obsessively detailed structures and emotions that I map onto the canv
as.\n\nMy line of influence runs from the precise representations of Ernst
Haeckel\, through the perfectly imperfect geometric abstractions of Sol L
eWitt and Agnes Martin\, to the contours that emerge from Dale Chihuly’s
physically dynamic and demanding creative process. My work pulls and exte
nds that thread.\nI paint with a 3D printing pen\, extruding lines of colo
red plastic onto canvas. I devoted several years to developing the new lan
guage for this medium\, allowing me to fully (and more powerfully) express
the ideas and emotions I had spent a career communicating with paint and
ink. The “struggle for control” metaphor becomes very real for me ever
y time I rely on this new\, imperfect technology as my translator. But it
’s not about the pen.\nI paint what I see. I blur the margin between two
and three dimensions. I spontaneously abstract emotions with shapes\, col
or and lines. I repeat. I repeat. My pieces do not have a master plan\, as
the work controls me as much as I control it. But that tension\, and the
tension my art represents\, is a happy tension. I believe art should bring
  joy and pleasure\, both emotionally and aesthetically.\n\n&nbsp\;
